    Back - Forward
  • The first book of the Bible tells us, "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" (Genesis 1:27). "The LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul" (Genesis 2:7). "And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, 'Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou thereof thou shalt surely die" (Genesis 2:15-17).

God created man and made him His personal representative on earth. Because of this, man holds a unique place of honor and dignity. Created in the image of God, he is a spiritual, rational, moral, and immortal being. If man is such a wonderful creation, then what has gone wrong to bring about the mess the world is in today?

The Scriptures teach that Adam, the first man, was the representative of the entire human race. What he did affected us all. He was given the responsibility of obeying God. But the devil tempted his wife, Eve, to disbelieve and disobey. "And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat." (Genesis 3:4-6).

At the moment of Adam's disobedience, sin entered the world and with it came death.
