Triathlon Star Alex Yee Shocks with Second-Fastest British Marathon Time
Olympic and world triathlon champion Alex Yee made a stunning debut in the marathon, finishing the Valencia Marathon in just his second competitive race at the distance. The 27-year-old, who has already claimed gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics and the world title, finished in an impressive 2:06:38, only four minutes slower than the record-holder, Mo Farah.
Yee's performance was a remarkable improvement from his April London Marathon run, where he finished 14th. His time was a full 4 minutes and 30 seconds faster than in London, showcasing his versatility and potential in a new discipline.
The race was won by Kenya's John Korir, who clocked an incredible 2:02:24. Germany's Amanal Petros finished second, 1 minute and 39 seconds behind, and Norway's Awet Kibrab took third place, 21 seconds further back.
Despite his success, Yee has stated that he has no plans to permanently switch to the marathon. He remains focused on defending his Olympic triathlon title in Los Angeles in 2028, where he will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with.
In the women's race, Joyciline Jepkosgei set the fastest time of the year with a winning time of 2:14:00. Fellow Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir finished second, 43 seconds behind, and Belgian Chloe Herbiet took third place with a time of 2:20:38.
This marathon performance by Yee has undoubtedly sparked excitement and curiosity in the triathlon community, leaving fans eager to see his future endeavors in both sports.
