Prepare to be captivated! A fresh glimpse of Isabelle Huppert in 'The Blood Countess' reveals a stunning transformation as Elizabeth Báthory, and it's bound to intrigue.
The image showcases Huppert, known for her role in 'Elle,' draped dramatically in red, alongside Birgit Minichmayr ('Perfume: The Story of a Murderer') as her loyal maid. The film promises to be a unique vampire mystery, and it's already generating buzz.
The world premiere of 'The Blood Countess' is set for the Berlin Film Festival next month.
The story unfolds as the infamous Blood Countess awakens from her slumber, emerging from the underworld. She and her devoted maid then begin a baroque journey through Vienna, all in pursuit of the elusive red elixir of life. This quest is far from simple, as a forbidden book, if discovered by their enemies, could shatter their vampire world.
But here's where it gets controversial... Their enemies are a diverse bunch: a vegetarian nephew, his psychotherapist, two vampirologists, and a police inspector, among other vibrant characters.
The supporting cast is equally impressive, featuring Thomas Schubert ('The Dark Valley'), Lars Eidinger ('Personal Shopper'), André Jung ('The Experiment'), Karl Markovics ('Unknown'), and even Eurovision Song Contest winner Conchita Wurst.
The film is a co-production between Austria, Luxembourg, and Germany, directed by Ulrike Ottinger, who co-wrote the script with Elfriede Jelinek ('The Piano Teacher'). Bettina Brokemper ('Melancholia,' 'Antichrist') serves as the executive producer.
This film seems to be a bold take on the vampire genre. What are your thoughts on this interpretation of Elizabeth Báthory? Do you think the diverse cast will add to the film's appeal? Share your opinions in the comments below!
