Italy's Air Force Secures Long-Term Support for C-27J Spartan Fleet and Simulator
A significant deal has been sealed in the aviation industry, as Leonardo and the Italian National Armaments Directorate announce a multi-year partnership. This agreement ensures comprehensive logistics support for the Italian Air Force's C-27J Spartan aircraft and the Full Motion Simulator at the International Training Centre (ITC) in Pisa.
The contract, spanning from 2026 to 2028, adopts a Performance-Based approach, promising top-tier efficiency for the Air Force's 12-strong fleet based in Pisa and Pratica di Mare, Rome. Leonardo will oversee technical and administrative operations at the ITC, with a particular focus on maintaining the flight simulator.
But here's where the C-27J Spartan shines: this tactical transport aircraft is a powerhouse in its class. With twin turboprop engines, it boasts remarkable performance, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. Its ability to operate from rough, unprepared runways and in harsh environments is unparalleled among its peers. And the enhanced C-27J Spartan Next Generation takes these capabilities even further with cutting-edge equipment and aerodynamic upgrades.
The Spartan's durability and system redundancy have been proven over 275,000 flight hours, earning the trust of major global air forces. It has been rigorously tested in demanding scenarios, consistently demonstrating its versatility in executing various missions. From transporting troops and supplies to the front line to aiding in disaster relief and firefighting, the C-27J does it all.
And this is the part that makes it truly versatile: the aircraft's cabin can be swiftly transformed into 11 distinct configurations, each tailored to a specific mission. Five primary setups, including cargo, troop transport, medical evacuation, and raid operations, can be executed in under 30 minutes with standard kits. Six additional configurations, such as VIP transport, passenger transport, and specialized medevac, are available with optional modules, catering to diverse operational needs.
