Microsoft is alerting Windows 11 users to this strange behavior stemming from recent updates. The tech giant confirms that the password icon is playing hide-and-seek on the lock screen, even when you've enabled multiple sign-in choices (like PIN or fingerprint).
Now, here's where it gets a little technical. Typically, Windows 11 only displays the password icon if you have other login methods active. If a password is your only option, the system skips the icon and presents the password field directly. But this bug affects users who've installed the August 2025 KB5064081 non-security preview update or later iterations on Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. While the icon is AWOL, Microsoft assures us the password function itself is still alive and kicking.

The functional button reappears like magic.
